Living in Florida, about to loose my home, help?

Question by Miss-T: Living in Florida, about to loose my home, help?
We are in the worst market in America for housing , Florida. I was out of work for almost 3 months. My husband and I are what the government likes to call “stuck in the middle.” We make too much money to be labeled poor and not enough to live. Mortgage was always on time before I was out of work. Now we are behind w/ a mortgage company who will not work w/ us. We have 3 children to think about also. Any suggestions on how we can fix this problem?

How much equity do you have in your home? It’s very possible that you can refinance, but you have to act fast. I can’t believe they are not willing to work out a forbearance agreement with you. There are still hard money lenders out there and since you have an explanation for the mortgage being late you might be able to go FHA.

Call the Homeownership Preservation Foundation, a FREE nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people just like you.

You can talk to them privately and confidentially and they may have some valid options for you.

    Good luck and best wishes.

The previous answer seems very good. You can also contact a bankruptcy attorney and file chapter 13 which would stop any foreclosure. I do find it odd that your lender won’t work with you, especially in the market. if you do have equity and are both working now with the capacity to pay the mortgage, then a local finance company may be able to offer a small 2nd mortgage which would catch up your first. Of course then you would have to pay both.
